Sorry for the delay in updating! (Had some problems with my computer and just getting things back up and running now...)
Things went "A-OK!" during last week's treatment.
Mommy had an allergic reaction to one medication - Alpurinol. Alpurinol is given during the chemo treatments to reduce the possibility of high uric acid levels and the effects of the chemo on the kidney. Unfortunately this time around she had a mild fever and rashes all over her body because of it. They removed it from her meds and it all cleared up.
When things like this happen during treatment it is so easy to get super-worried over it. (At least for me -- a worrier!) You wonder... well, is removing this drug going to cause long range problems with her kidneys? Was that reaction really just to that one med, or is it a reaction to the chemo itself? Will she be able to continue the remaining chemo treatments or is there any concern in doing that? Worry. Worry. Worry.
Thank you for your prayers during her treatment week!! Once they identified the reaction to the drug, the doctor ordered some fluids to care for the kidney function and had no concerns over the overall function and condition of her kidneys and no concern about continuing the treatments out. As a matter of fact her attending doctor was pleased to hear that she was in remission and said it's very appropriate and realistic that she can be cured of the leukemia.
Continuing to trust in God's power and presence to work His healing out in her life.
Mommy's now home and we're waiting for the downward trend of her blood counts and the eventual start of the upward curve of those counts. The next couple of weeks -- if it mirrors her last cycle -- will consist of trips to get blood and platelet transfusions and possibly the intense pains from her Neupogen shots.
As we have been... we're taking it one day at a time.
And always... thankful for your love and prayers!
